On June 1, 2023, one of our visitors sent us the following complaint:

I am a victim of a scam website called usstokyo.com. In April 2022, I paid a $1,000 deposit fee along with ¥845,000 [around 6,000 USD] for the shipment of a car.

However, it has been over a year, and the car has not been shipped, nor have I received a refund. The website stopped responding to my emails after I made the full payment, including the shipping fees.

So is UssTokyo a SCAM?

    4. Auction Result – If the bid is successful, a proforma invoice is sent to the customer, which includes the total price, including the price of the car(s) and FOB (Free on Board) or C&F (Cost and Freight). The total price is calculated based on the original buying price at the auction.
    5. Final Payment – The customer is required to make the final payment within 7 working days.
    6. Shipping –  After the payment is confirmed, UssTokyo.com arranges for shipping.

Several customers have reported non-responsiveness, refund issues, and misleading practices.

However, a few positive reviews mention smooth transactions and good customer service.

Ahimbisibwe, a user from Uganda, left a 1-star review on Trustpilot for usstokyo.com, dated May 30, 2023. According to Ahimbisibwe, usstokyo.com is an online car auction scam website that fraudulently takes money from unsuspecting individuals. The company has cloned its website to resemble a reputable Japanese auction company, USS Tokyo, but it has no affiliation with them. Ahimbisibwe states that the genuine website for USS Tokyo is “ussnet.co.jp,” while “usstokyo.com” is a proven scam with the sole purpose of misleading and stealing from the public.

Ahimbisibwe alleges to have been defrauded by UssTokyo.com after paying a deposit and purchase fee for a car that was never delivered, nor refunded. The company, which claims to be a Japanese car auctioneer, has its principal office in Lahore, Pakistan according to Ahimbisibwe.

After publicizing their negative experience, the company offered a refund that never materialized. Similar complaints have been made by other customers on Trustpilot. Despite these claims, UssTokyo.com has denied any wrongdoing, requesting the removal of such reviews.

    SiteJabber

Customers advise against paying deposits or purchasing vehicles from Usstokyo.com.

The site is flagged as suspicious by Sitejabber and has been identified as a fraudulent online car auction scam.

On November 26, 2022, one person wrote:

Deliberately designed to mimic a legitimate Japanese auction company, Usstokyo.com had no affiliation whatsoever. I paid to bid on vehicles at the auction, won them, made the payment, but never received the vehicles. When I inquired through the live chat, the operator blamed global shipping issues. However, after waiting for 12 months, I have come to the realization that it is a complete scam. I strongly advise against paying any deposit for bidding or purchasing vehicles from this website. They are fraudulent operators.

    Zoominfo.com

According to Zoominfo, USSTokyo.com is an automobile dealership based in Japan. They have fewer than 25 employees.

The company’s contact information includes a phone number: +81 8013340786 (A Japan number).

    Complaints we received

On July 6, 2023, we received the following complaint:

I paid them over 8 million JPY [56,482.42 USD – CSR, July 7, 2023] for 5 cars, but I never received the cars or a refund. They are scammers! Do not make any payments to them!

    UssTokyo Review Conclusion

In conclusion, while UssTokyo.com presents itself as a bridge between Japanese auction houses and clients around the world, providing access to over 120 online auctions and about 30,000 vehicle options daily, there are multiple indications of dissatisfaction and suspected fraudulent activities as reported by users.

Despite offering a seemingly streamlined and simple process for auction participation, numerous customers have reported never receiving the cars they purchased or refunds for their transactions. There are also claims that the site cloned a reputable Japanese auction company’s website to deceive potential buyers.

The reviews gathered from various platforms, such as Trustpilot and Sitejabber, indicate a mix of opinions. However, a large number of negative reviews and a low overall rating suggest potential issues with the website’s credibility and the quality of its services.

Furthermore, while UssTokyo.com is committed to 24/7 customer support, it appears to fall short in practice, with reported cases of unresponsiveness, particularly after customers have made full payments. Also, the significant presence of the company’s staff on LinkedIn in Lahore, Pakistan, and not Japan raises further questions about the company’s legitimacy.

Therefore, potential customers are advised to proceed with caution and conduct thorough research before making any transactions through UssTokyo.com.
